Artwork Commissions

Process & Past Work

  • Dream it.

Dreaming of a beautiful arfwork for your home? Or looking for a special, unique gift?

Whatever you’ve been daydreaming about, the way to booking an art commission starts here!

If you desire something special for your home, an art commission is a way to ensure the artwork resonates with you and is the most authentic way to personalise your space. Even if you move or renovate, you will still love your artwork and get pangs of joy every time you gaze at it! A meaningful connection to your artwork ensures its place in your home (or your gift recipient’s home) to enjoy for many years.

  • Create it.

    Yay, the fun bit!

We will confirm the brief for your artwork, this may be over the phone, email, or in-person over coffee!

As the artist, it is my role to tease out the details of what you’ve been dreaming about and firm-up your requirements anything from desired size, colours, or confirming the scene you have in mind. Sometimes, it is as simple as you’ve seen my previous artwork and trust in the process. Other times, there may be special considerations such as photo reference(s), a direction of a view, or preferred colours.

Once your artwork brief is confirmed, this is scheduled in studio and you will receive a composition to approve, and then the creative magic really happens!

  • Love it!

Voila! A unique artwork is yours to hang and enjoy in your home (or gift).

The artwork typically takes about 8-10 weeks to complete. The commission will be shared at intervals, and a viewing at 95% completion. This ensures satisfaction and enables any final tweaks or final touches to your artwork.

If you requested the artwork to be framed, this is service is schedule for dry artwork, allow drying time, plus framing approx 2-3 weeks to finalise. Then your fabulous new art commission is delivered (or collected from studio) ready-to-hang!

Please share beautiful pics of the paintings when hung via email or tag me @hollymahoney.artist

WARNING many collectors love the work so much, they book a second artwork!

Gifting an artwork commission, means the lucky recipient can be involved in the process of briefing their artwork & be a part of the creative process (or you may opt to simply suprise them with a finished artwork!)

Art Commission Gifts are perfect gift for the person who has everything!

Art Commissions are currently open for 2025.

Hamilton Island art commission

Hamilton Island Artwork Commission by Holly Mahoney Artist

Oil on canvas, 150 x 64 cm

It all begins with an idea. My art collector had a vision for the art to illuminate an interior for their Hamilton Island holiday home with a very high ceiling. These vertical artworks were designed to hang together or apart with a level horizon and myriad of blues inspired by the Whitsundays.

Landscape painting of a beach with light blue water, sandy shore, and distant hills under a partly cloudy sky.
Painting of a sailboat sailing near a sandy beach with hills in the background.
Painting of a tropical beach with a mountain in the background, turquoise water, sandy shore, and palm trees in the foreground.
Painting of a palm tree with green fronds against a bright blue sky.
Painted tropical beach scene with palm trees and a rocky shoreline under a blue sky.

Fairlight art commission

Living room with a beige sofa with blue and white pillows, a framed photo and seashell decor on a wooden side table, a large landscape painting of a coastal scene on the wall, a woven floor lamp, and sliding glass doors letting in natural light.

Oil on canvas, 90 x 160cm (framed in Oak)

Delwood Beach, Fairlight was a joy to create. The artwork was briefed with a touch of nostalgia for family beach swims amongst the rocks at Delwood Beach. As the artist, I too played and swam in the depths, creating layers on the surface of the canvas and imbued the work with symbolism with special meaning for my client.

Beach scene painting depicting rocks, sand, green plants in the foreground, blue water, and a distant hilly shoreline with boats.
A painting of a coastal scene with blue water, boats, rocky shore, green plants, and a clear sky.
An impressionistic painting of a coastal landscape featuring large yellow and gray rocks, green grass and plants in the foreground, blue sky, and water in the background, with a small bird on the ground.

North Curl Curl art commission

A colorful impressionist style painting of a sunset over a rocky shoreline with waves crashing, a pier extending into the water, and a vibrant sky with pink, orange, and yellow clouds.

Oil on canvas, 76 x 76cm

South Curl Curl Headland, (view to North Curl Curl).

Swimming in the ocean at North Curly has to be my favourite place in the world, so it’s fair to say I found my people with this artwork. Super wonderful clients, after visiting my solo Drawn In at the North Curl Curl Creative Space booked an art commission as a gift for each other. After careful consideration to size and a square composition and an early pre-Christmas viewing, it was an amazing experience as the artist to deliver an absolute final suprise to be unveiled on Christmas day. You know they say brown paper packages wrapped up with string = happy art collectors!

An abstract painting of a dock or pier extending into water, with vibrant colors including pink, orange, yellow, blue, and black reflections in the water.
Abstract painting of a landscape with dark mountains, a bridge or arch, and bright yellow flowers in the foreground.

Adriatic Sea art commission

A colorful sky at sunset reflecting on calm water, with a rocky shoreline in the foreground and a small structure on the distant horizon.

International artwork #2 for 2024!

When a very special art collector has her artwork ‘First Light’ from my solo Drawn In, hanging in the background on international video calls, its only fair to say that there was some serious wall envy occuring. Enter the brief for the Adriatic Sea!

A painting about nothing - but sunlight and reflections over a pebbly shoreline. Challenge accepted, and captured on canvas!

‘Sundown Over Makaska’ was rolled and delivered via flight and stretched and framed internationally. Mindful of the requirements to roll and drying time what a thrill to see the work hanging in the background on return calls for my art collector gifted to family. (You know who you are!)

Oil on canvas, 91 x 121cm

POV: When you miss out on the painting that you had your eyes on —And I paint a new original just for you 😍

Dee Why Sunrise, not a copy but a second iteration, as all my art commissions are original. In this fresh take on ‘First Light’ the client trusted me to capture the magic of the sun rising - just a little higher - when the bright beams of gold and striking purples are softening into rose golds and the shadows are quietly slipping away before day truly breaks.

A joy to revisit this special morning that my partner had photographed locally at Dee Why Beach and an even greater joy to deliver—just in time— before another special arrival!

As an artist I love being part of these meaningful moments captured in paint 💛

Dee Why art commission

A painting of a beach scene with people swimming in a pool, a woman sitting by the pool, a man and a woman playing with a yellow water toy, and a surfer standing on the rocks holding a surfboard, with waves and land in the background.

Oil on canvas, 101 x 76cm

A meaningful and joyful piece! Dee Why Ocean Pool, with its vibrant summer energy, was the perfect way to bring a piece of Sydney to an English home. This thoughtful 80th birthday gift travelled across the world, carrying sunshine, ocean blues, and playful family moments. More than just a painting—it’s a bridge between places, a reminder of warm memories, and a connection to Australia’s stunning coastline and family.

Queenscliff (Manly), Northern Beaches art commission

A female surfer gazes out over Queenscliff surf beach.

Created for a close friend as she moved from Sydney to Brisbane, this piece brings the aqua blues of Queenscliff to Manly with her—a favourite view, forever captured. The pop of yellow from a lone female surfer’s board adds contrast and energy, a reminder that some places stay with us no matter where we go.
