Epic Cliffs, North Head was inspired by the new cliff walk at North Head, the composition is the view north. The artwork came to life with gusto in the studio. Completely swept away by the immediacy of mark-making with an Indigo oil stick and the thrill of working on a raw linen surface and approaching this as I would a drawing. Later washes of colour created the contrasting light backdrop of the sky with loose fleeting clouds followed by the shadow over the sea. The artwork then stayed with me for some time, conscientiously contemplating the raw linen spaces, and then one day - bang - completed in a flourish with the fine brushstrokes and inky shadows of the cliff-top grasses.
